Course Dates: August 10th - 12th 2020
Over three days, you will learn the 19th Century alla prima oil painting technique and the history of this celebrated method. Alla prima is a direct painting method favoured by great master landscape painters of this time such as John Singer Sargent and Joaquin Sorolla. These artists loved this fast-paced method which involved capturing a scene in one or two sittings. During the masterclass, our expert tutor will teach you this compelling technique through a step-by-step methodology.
You will experience a creative journey through demonstrations, exercises, copying a master’s 19th-century alla prima landscape and one-to-one guidance to master their painterly approach that focuses on capturing the colour of the light.
All of our masterclasses can be learnt in our central London art studio at Sunny Art Centre or remotely online via our live online teaching platform. The live online art tuition will follow the same structure as our on-site sessions. You can, therefore, have live interactive art lessons with our expert art tutors remotely, wherever you are.
By the end of the art course, you will have learnt about light theory, value (Impressionist value range), colour theory, edges, perspective, brushes for specific techniques, specific medium for alla prima painting and mixing colour.
Making master copies is the best way to learn an approach, and this art masterclass will provide you with the necessary skills and confidence to create Impressionist landscapes that capture the shimmering beauty of light.
Our art tutors will provide you with booklets and manuals to aid your development. Content covered in this masterclass includes:
