Gary Betts’ creative life has been a constantly evolving process. He first discovered his talent for ceramics and sculpture at school, so a progression to art school seemed natural. He studied design for print followed by medical illustration at Barking, Essex.
His career path took him into graphic design, illustration, film storyboard art, art direction and creative direction. Throughout his career, sculpture has always been his main passion.
Betts has always explored the human form, but the idea behind the image has been his defining style. His art conveys his personal insights, giving the raw material a voice that is alive. His work is often described as enigmatic.
Betts porcelain and bronze works are internationally acclaimed with collectors from Hong Kong to New York. Several galleries represent him in the UK.
Betts lives in London and works on a barge moored on the River Thames.
