Chinese painting workshop: How to paint Peonies
Friday 6:30pm – 9:00pm ( 1st November 2013)

Highlights
This workshop are dedicated to those who would like to learn traditional and contemporary Chinese brush painting techniques. The workshop are informal and suitable for students at all levels (including professional artists who would like to try a new technique). Consistent with the philosophies behind Chinese brush paintings, our aim is to make the workshop fun and sociable so that you can unwind – after your busy week – to enjoy your weekend.
This workshop begins with a demonstration of a particular technique of how to paint peonies. The Peony, known as the King of Flowers, has long been regarded by Chinese culture as a symbol of wealth, good fortune, happiness and prosperity, and is a common theme in Chinese painting. Peonies are not only beautiful, but also have a strong and lovely fragrance. For these reasons, peonies were often portrayed by ancient Chinese artists.

Our teacher will explain and demonstrate all the basics that you will need to get started. This will include an explanation of the different materials and a demonstration of how you should hold the brush and how to produce the different basic strokes. You will be given the opportunity to practice before producing your first painting. Our students will then apply such technique and those gained from the workshop to produce at least one painting by the end of this workshop.
